4 Characteristics of an Ethical Person in the Virtual Environment

Ethics is one of the most important characteristics an employer looks for in a new candidate. As a business owner and the acting hiring manager, I seek out individuals who possess highly defined ethics and a sound working foundation. I’ve learned over the years that an ethical individual tends to work harder at producing results; therefore, being more productive on the job.

Characteristics Associated with an Ethical Individual

Honesty: Ethical workers know the value honesty has in the workplace. They strive to do the right thing and remain honest even when doing so has a negative result on their circumstances. An employer respects a worker that isn’t too proud to speak up when they’ve made an error.

Responsibility: A dedicated and sincere ethical worker takes responsibility seriously, at all levels. They calmly embrace the opportunity to take the lead.

Reliability: An ethical worker is reliable to a fault. Their "word" counts! If there is something that needs to be done and they’re engaged in the process, you can trust the job will be completed.

Job-Focus: Ethical workers remain focused on the task at hand. From start to finish, they’re committed. The sense of accomplishment motivates them to the end.

These are just four of the characteristics associated with an ethical individual that each hiring manager should consider. The person you contract to work on your company’s behalf must have your best interests in mind at all times. Someone that always has an excuse for a job not being completed, a communication being misunderstood, or simply leaves you second-guessing on whether the work is being done, should have a very short stay in your establishment. So dot your I's and cross your T's before you hire an individual that doesn’t put work ethics first.
